his project began with observing and documenting family relationships, focusing on the emotional bond between artist Chou Fang-Yu and her older sister.
After moving out of her childhood home, Fang-Yu and her sister no longer shared daily life, and their connection started to drift apart. However, K-pop became a surprising new bridge between them—a fresh way to connect emotionally. Her sister began practicing K-pop dance routines with friends, and each time she dressed up and practiced, there was something special and focused about her. As the younger sister, Fang-Yu began watching her with a kind of “fangirl” gaze—fascinated by her makeup and choreography, eager to capture the glowing moments of youth before they faded. Some of the outfits may have been uncomfortable, but the process of “becoming beautiful” was her sister’s way of enjoying the spotlight. For Fang-Yu, the act of dressing up and documenting became a playful way to reconnect, and turned into a new form of sisterly dialogue.
Over three years of documentation through photography and mixed media, created since Fang-Yu left home in 2021. The works are a collaboration between artist and sister, exploring themes of family, personal identity, and emotional closeness—through obsession, transformation, and the complex love between sisters.
